North Korea


North Korea,  officially the Democratic People's Republic of Korea,  is a country in east Asia constituting the northern part of the Korean Peninsula, with Pyongyang the capital and the largest city in the country. 


The economy of North Korea is a centrally planned system, where the role of market allocation schemes is limited, though increasing. There has been some economic liberalization particularly after Kim Jong-un assumed the leadership in 2012, but reporters conflict over particular legislation and enactment.

KOREAN is the official language of North Korea and South Korea. It is also one of the two official languages of the Yanbian Korean Autonomous Prefecture in China. 


CULTURE, BELIEFS, COMMON ATTITUDES, CELEBRATIONS

The North  Korean calendar has 71 official public holidays, including Sundays. In the past , North Koreans relied on rations provided by the state on pubic holidays for feasts. Recently, with marketization people are able to save up money and buy the goods they need. 

The DAY OF THE SUN, the birthday of its founder and the first leader KIM II-sung, on 15 April is the most important holiday in the country. The second most important is THE DAY OF SHINING STAR on 16 February, the birthday of  KIM JONG-IL. Other holidays are the PARTY FOUNDATION DAY (10 OCTOBER) & THE DAY OF THE FOUNDATION OF THE REPUBLIC (9 OF SEPTEMBER).

BELIEFS & ATTITUDES 

Koreans believe in sincerity and following protocols while meeting, eating, praying or  even celebrating is very important. Bowing is equivalent to the handshake in Korean culture. Bowing means showing gratitude and respect to the person you are meeting with. The younger generations have blended the western culture with their native culture by shaking hands aster bowing to each other.



CULTURE DIFFERENCES

The population ha little or no exposure to foreign cultural influences apart from performances by song and dance group and other entertainers brought in periodically for limited audiences. These performances, such as the Spring Friendship Art Festival held annually in April, are designed to show that the people of the world, like the North Koreans themselves, love and respect the country's leader. during the 1980's and the early 1990's the North Korean media gave Kim Jong-il credit for working carelessly to make the country a "kingdom of art" where a cultural renaissance unmatched in other countries was taking place. Indeed, the younger, Kim was personally responsible for cultural policy. 

North Korean society and culture through the lens of theater, film, and everyday performance and ideology- shaping matrix that not only entertains but also essentially organizes and mobilizies  society, The socialist culture has had a tremendous influence on the daily life of the people in North Korea
